Interim Dean of the College of Health Sciences Announcement

Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Johannes Britz as Interim Dean of the College of Health Sciences, effective as of November 1st.

Johannes will continue in his role as Dean of the School of Information Studies. As SOIS Dean, Johannes has a record of accomplishment in developing a collective vision around international, interdisciplinary, and online research and academic programs. In particular, he has facilitated interdisciplinary collaborations between the College and the School of Information Studies around health informatics. His experience in these areas will be an asset in leading the College of Health Sciences, as will his open and collaborative leadership style.

Johannes has a very specific interest in social justice and information poverty and works extensively in Africa on this topic. Most of his work is being done in close collaboration with the European Union, UNESCO and a number of African governments. He is co-editor of the International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE) and serves on the editorial board of the Library and Information Science Research Journal of the University of Bucharest. He currently serves on the World Information Technology Forum’s (WITFOR) commission for Ethics, Law and Society and is also a member of the advisory board of the International Research Foundation for Development.

I know you will join me in wishing Hannes well as he takes on these new responsibilities. As we undertake the search for a new dean, I am confident that the College will continue to make progress on its goals during this interim year.

Sincerely,
Rita
