Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Professor David Yu has accepted the position of Interim Dean of the Graduate School starting on August 1, 2011. Professor Yu currently is the Associate Dean for Graduate and International Programs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Professor Yu has been a faculty member in the Electrical Engineering department since 1984 and has served UWM in various positions including Department Chair and Associate Dean. He also chairs the Research Committee of the Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium, which is a joint university-industry collaboration for research and workforce development in the energy sector. Professor Yu brings years of effective leadership experience in graduate education and research. During the interim period, Professor Yu will retain limited duties in the College of Engineering and Applied Science while taking on the responsibilities in the Graduate School.
I am also pleased to announce that Professor Mark Harris has accepted the interim role of Special Assistant to the Chancellor for providing leadership in the area of research growth and administration. Professor Harris has been a faculty member at UWM since 1990 and has served in several leadership and administrative roles including Department Chair, Associate Dean for Natural Sciences in the College of Letters and Science, Associate Dean at the Graduate School, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research, and currently as Acting Dean of the School of Freshwater Sciences. Professor Harris will also continue to function as the Acting Dean of the School of Freshwater Sciences until the arrival of Dean-designate David Garman. After Dr. Garman’s arrival, Professor Harris will have an administrative role in the School of Freshwater Sciences until the end of the semester.
